Two Match! - A Crazy Food Adventure -

Hello! Hello! I am going to invite you to a food adventure! In this adventure, you will meet some crazy food and new ideas or new combinations of food. In order to enjoy this adventure, you don't need anything special such as VISA, but you definitely need a great curiosity and a can-do spirit! So, are you ready?

1. Mayonnaise and Honey

Have you ever tried them together? Oh, I can hear some voices saying NO! As you know, mayonnaise is salty and honey is sweet, so people usually eat them indivisually. In fact, the taste is really good even when we eat them togehter! I make a slice of toast and spread mayonnaise on it at first, and then spread honey as the same amount as mayonnaise on it. That's it! Really simple huh? That is what I always eat and my mother also eats it. Sometimes we put some vegetables and ham on it, and the taste is still amazing! I think you should try it at least once!

2. Vanilla ice cream with Balsamic vinegar

Heeeeyyyyy! Please don't run away!! I know you think I am crazy, I understand. But I introduce this combination because I think you definitely should know the taste of it. When I visited my friend's house, she told me that she eats vanilla ice cream with balsamic vinegar. I said "Are you sure?" to her, and she said "Yes!" I could not imagine the taste of that weird combination, and that made me be impelled by curiosity. So I tried it. "WOW!!" I said so in a loud voice. These two actually matched! I can not describe the taste with using the simple phrase such as "sweet and sour", but I liked it! The tase was a bit strange but DELICIOUS! Since then, I eat vanilla ice cream with balsamic vinegar all the time. So believe me! You're gonna love it!

3. Coffee and Tea

OK...OK... It sounds strange to you, right? I know. "Coffee and tea? No way!" - that's what people say to me all the time. Well, this idea is not mine. This is the idea from Hong Kong. In Hong Kong, there is a popular drink called Yuenyeung Tea. They make it by mixing coffee and tea. People who have never treid it usually think that the taste of coffee must be stronger and the taste of the combination naturally be like normal coffee. In fact, that's not true. The taste is not the same as coffee, and not the same as tea either. It is not as strange as you imagine. So I strongly recommend it to you. I will go to Hong Kong in August, so I can buy some for you. So, wanna try it?

These above are what I have tried and what I like. In addition, there are two more things which I want to introduce. I have never tried them before, so this is going to be an adventure to me, too!

4. Yogurt with Soy sauce

"Eating yogurt with soy sauce? No way! I have never come up with such a creepy idea and have never met a person who eats it like that. I can't believe it! God!!" - this is what I said to my mother when she told me the idea of eating yogurt with soy sauce. It's shocking, isn't it? But I have more shocking news for you. I met a person who eats yogurt with soy sauce, and the person is... MY GRANDMOTHER!!!!!!!! One day, at my grandparents' house, I woke up and went to the kitchen. My grandmother was having breakfast and then I saw a shocking scene. She put soy sauce on yogurt!! I just couldn't believe what I saw at that time, and I thought that maybe I was half asleep and mistook. So I washed my face and tried to wake me up. After that, I asked my grandmother about it. "What are you eating?" "Yogurt." "With what?" "Soy sauce, OF COURSE!!" Oh no... what a terrible conversation! So what I saw was right. She ate yogurt with soy sauce!! I did not try it and I just looked at her eating it. Still now I can not have a courage to try it, but I want to know what the taste is like. Is there any great adventurer who can try it for me?

5. Garlic in Miso soup

Miso soup is eaten all over Japan and different people enjoy different miso soup. So, have you ever put garlic in it? No you have not! I have not, either! I didn't even want to eat that kind of miso soup because that is soooo strange! But, again, MY GRANDMOTHER eats it. Here is another crazy conversation: "Megu-chan, you wanna eat miso soup?" "yes, yes! waht's in it?" "garlic, hahaha!" "whaaaaatttttttt??????" "garlic only~~" "are you ok, grandma?"
OK. Now you are laughing, but I could not laugh at that time. OF COURSE, I did't eat it. But... strangely, I regret that (lol). I am so curious about the taste. Maybe it tastes good! ...or bad? I don't know. So I wanna know! But my courage is not big enough to make it by myself, so I want a team to try it with me! Any volunteers?
By the way, my grandmother is a monster! I can not anticipate what she would do, and that is like an adventure!

Congrats! You finished your first crazy food adventure! Yay! Did you enjoy all of them? (Well, I know you are not nodding!) If you try the first three, please let me know, and if you try the two which I've not tried yet, please tell me about the taste. Also, I would like to know other crazy combinations with actually match!
I am looking forward to your comments!

See you soon!

The Taste

Hello! Nei hou! Konnichiwa!
I'm Megumi and please call me Meg.

I am crazy about eating and cooking, and these two are my pleasure of my life. Eating is a daily-life action and we have no question to do that, but it really is the important thing to do to live because what we need to live longer is energy and the energy comes from what we eat: food! And cooking is also important because by cooking we can taste the food differently each time and we can keep having a great energy without getting bored with the same taste. I can eat and cook by myself, but when I do that with my friends, doing that becomes more meaningful and I can have a wonderful time. I want to share my idea about the importance of eating and cooking, and want to share the happiness which food brings with others. That is why I chose this class.

The reason why I chose "Spice Up Your Life" as my blog's name is that I want to experience and learn many things and want to enjoy my life. And I hope that all the experiences and things I learn will be good SPICES to make my life exciting and TASTY.

Let me tell you a little bit about myself. Every time I introduce myself to others, I talk about Hong Kong, because it was the most influential place to mold my personality or character. I lived there for 4 years when I was an elementary school student. Hong Kong has a unique history and culture. The place is a part of China, but was colonized by the UK for more that 100 years, and it also has a close relationship between Japan. In Hong Kong, we can enjoy and get excitements of British culture and Chinese culture as foreign cultures, and can feel relaxed with a close culture to Japanese one at the same time. It is like killing three birds with one stone, right? Then, what I want to say is that I am that kind of person. I am Japanese, I speak Japanese in daily life, and I love Japan, but I call Hong Kong my home town, I always think about Hong Kong and I eat/cook Chinese and Cantonese food a lot as daily meals. In addition, sometimes I feel more comfortable when I speak English instead of Japanese (though my English is not perfect...haha!). So, I have my original culture or character mixed with/influenced by different cultures! In order to express my culture and personality simply, I greeted you in different languages, English, Cantonese and Japanese, at the beggining. I hope you enjoy them.

Well, now you know me! Now you know my taste! I want to know more about you all and want to have a wonderful relationship with you all!

I think I am so lucky to take such a captivating, fascinating and attractive class, and I am so excited to do all the activities through the semester.

See you! Zhoi gin! Matane!
